This site boasts ten million members and reckons on creating nearly a million relationships every year. There are forums, meets organised by the members and the ability like other dating sites to message other members. You do have to put up with a few annoying ads and some of the messaging is a little quirky but it is completely free.
Meet up Groups This is an interesting site dedicated to putting people with the same interests together. There's one singles meetup group based in Cheltenham and other groups for walking, poker players and flute players to mention just a few.
This is a totally free dating site. Looks to be fairly new still and nowhere near as many members as other sites but it is totally free, not as clunky as plentyoffish and with most of the features on paid for sites - should do well.
Speed dating

Most of these sites are free to join but you do almost always need to pay if you want to communicate with other members.
singleandsocial.co.uk is your one stop website for social networking and dating and gives you a choice of how to meet - on-line or face to face at an event.
There are links to various local social activities so if you are not interested in dating but would like information about your local golf club for example, then you will find information on this website as well as specific events

One of the first and longest established dating sites with about 15 million members worldwide, Lots of resources, matchmaking, reverse matches, messaging. This is probably one of the largest dating sites in the world.
Does exactly what it says on the tin but obviously if the girls don't pay - who does?
