Walking weekend in Carmarthenshire
Update - this weekend was a great, lots of fun and laughts and we even saw two dolphins and three seals. I intend to repeat this sometime so have left the details here.
End Update
I have reserved these cottages for us for the 30th March - 2nd April.
Please read
the details below and let me know who is interested in this idea asap please.
Walking,
craft, cycling, sightseeing weekend in Carmarthenshire - 30th March/2nd April 2012.
I've
come across this interesting holiday complex in the Teifi Valley, West Wales on the
borders of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. Drive time from Tewkesbury is about three
hours.
There are craft facilities on site including the possibility of learning how
to throw a pot and decorate it. http://www.waunifor.com/index.php/english/craft-pottery
Prices
seem pretty reasonable. A craft morning or afternoon session starts at £47.50 but
reduces to £100 for 8 people. There's a beauty salon on site too, not that I need
it. Newquay is within driving distance where you can go dolphin and seal spotting.
A 2 hour trip is £15. http://www.newquay-westwales.co.uk/boats.htm
This is self catering
accommodation spread across 5 cottages of differing sizes. I have secured these cottages
at low season rates as a concession to us. Cost is £80 per room for 45nSingle paid
up members, additional £10 for non members. There are no ensuite facilities. Note,
price is per room for 3 nights, if people want to bring the cost down then they are
perfectly welcome to share, supplement of £3 per extra towel or bring your own. Prices
include linen, electricity, hot water etc and towel. In some cottages with log fires
the first basket of logs is provided.
None of the cottages is large enough to cope
with us all dining together but there is a function room availabe for hire at £50
per evening which we would all need to chip in for if we decide to use it. Someone
suggested we could have a variation of pot luck with each cottage preparing one of
the courses.
Catering can be provided and of course there is always the option of
choosing a nearby pub to eat in.
I have listed the available cottages and rooms below.
You are free to choose whichever room you think suits you best. However if the numbers
don't add up then we may have to adjust the rooms to suit the available accommodation
and we may need to adjust the room allocation if there are enough people who don't
want to share mixed sex facilities.
Terms: £25 deposit required for each room, balance
payable no more than six weeks from start of weekend. Waunifor will be as flexible
as possible regarding cancellations however having made the reservation you must
accept responsibility for the outstanding balance if we (45nSinge/Waunifor) are unable
to resell/relet your accommodation.

The Longhouse sleeps up to 10 people in three twin rooms (two of which
are on the ground floor), one triple room and one single room. There are two bathrooms
(one upstairs, one downstairs) both with bath and shower, and a fully fitted and
equipped small kitchen. The Longhouse has a superb beamed living room with a wood
burning stove set in a stunning inglenook fireplace and a large wood panelled dining
area.
Coach-house Mews self catering accommodation has three twin and two single rooms,
and two bathrooms, one with a shower cubicle, the other with a bath and shower over.
The long beamed kitchen is fully fitted with a large fridge and freezer compartment
and has the dining area in one half. The cosy living room has an open fire to supplement
the central heating and a variety of comfy sofas and chairs as well as coffee table,
TV and DVD player and CD player. The first basket of logs is supplied and the fire
will be made up on your arrival, more logs are available from the wood shed for a
small charge.
At the far end of the holiday cottage are the two single bedrooms and
a large twin bedroom with basin as well as the main bath and shower room. The other
two twin bedrooms and shower-room are located closer to the entrance, near the shower-room.
Coach House is very popular with our guests who love the spacious layout and lovely
views, it is also very cosy and warm and ideal for weekends or winter breaks as well
as summer holidays. It is all on one level and is reached by a short flight of fairly
steep steps so may not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Outside the
Coach House is a courtyard with grassy lawns, flower borders, a herb garden and picnic
tables.
Stable Holiday Cottage, as the name suggests, is a converted stone stable,
and retains some character features, such as recesses which held hay for the horses.
Stable
self catering accommodation sleeps six people in three twin-bedded rooms, all upstairs.
Also upstairs is the bathroom with bath, WC and wash basin. Downstairs is a shower
room, also with hand basin. There is a spacious kitchen/breakfast room and lounge
with dining area.
Robin Holiday Cottage is a delightful single storey holiday cottage
that can accommodate up to four people.
It has three bedrooms, one twin-bedded and
two singles. There is an electric shower, wash basin and WC.
As with all our cottages,
Robin has central heating throughout and a fully fitted kitchen.
Duckpond Holiday
Cottage is part of a small block that originally was used to house livestock for
the Waunifor Estate and adjoins Robin Holiday Cottage. It has one bedroom with a
double bed and a cosy lounge with sofa, dining table and chairs and an open plan
kitchen with cooker, microwave, fridge, sink and kitchen equipment. In front of the
holiday cottage is a grassy area with picnic table and nearby is the duck pond which
is a haven for wildlife. The surrounding trees are filled with birds and you will
enjoy listening to all the sounds of nature as you relax on your holiday.
Heron Cottage
this cottage is still being renovated so will be the newest of all. Three bedrooms.Description
not yet available but will be to the same standard as the other cottages.
Accessing
the accommodation
Robin and Stable cottages have parking outside the door, other cottages
have parking within 10 metres, with access via level pathways.
Visitors are greeted
on arrival. Please inform us if any special arrangements are needed.
Robin and Stable
cottages have no steps at all to their main entrances (nearest to parking) and one
approx. 15cm (6”) step at the rear.
The Longhouse has one very shallow step at the
front door (approx 5cm/2”)
Duckpond cottage has two steps (approx 6”/15cm) to the
front door.
Coach House Mews is completely on the first floor and has a steep staircase
to access the accommodation
Accommodation layout
Robin and Duckpond cottages are ground
floor level throughout, with no internal steps.
Coach House Mews is entirely on the
first floor. Having negotiated the staircase to enter the apartment, there are no
further steps within the Mews.
The Longhouse has two of the five bedrooms (both twin
bedded), one of the bathrooms, the lounge/diner and kitchen on the ground floor.
The other bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed via a staircase.
